REMEMBERING
9/11

A moment of reflection on community and resilience from Tina Hambleton.

Today we mark the anniversary of September 11, 2001. It is a day that lives in the memory of every American, a moment when time seemed to stand still and the world we knew changed in an instant. As I pause with our Riverside community, I want to reflect on what that day taught us, and on the values that carried us through.

HONORING THOSE WE LOST

We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001. We remember the parents, children, and friends who never came home. We honor the first responders who ran toward danger when every instinct said to run away: the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and ordinary citizens who gave everything so that others might live. And we remember the everyday heroes, the strangers who helped one another down stairwells and opened their homes and their hearts in the days that followed.

HOW OUR COMMUNITIES CAME TOGETHER

When the attacks happened, grief was felt in every corner of this country, and it was felt deeply here in Riverside and across the Inland Empire. In the days and weeks that followed, our communities did what they do best: they came together. Blood drives filled within hours. Neighbors checked on neighbors. Vigils and fundraisers sprang up in parks and churches. People who had never met stood shoulder to shoulder in silence, holding candles and holding one another up. Distance from New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania did not matter. We were one nation, and we grieved as one.

THE VALUES TRAGEDY REVEALED

Tragedy reveals what is already in our hearts. September 11 revealed a reserve of courage that most of us did not know we had. It revealed unity, the kind that crosses every line we so often draw between one another. It revealed simple kindness, a cup of water offered to a stranger, a hand reached out to help. And it revealed the quiet commitment to look out for one another that defines the best of who we are. Those values did not fade when the smoke cleared. They became part of how we live.

WHAT TRULY MATTERS: HOME AND COMMUNITY

For me, as a real estate professional, September 11 has always carried an extra layer of meaning. That day reminded all of us what truly matters: family, neighbors, and the places we call home. A home is never just walls and a roof. It is where we gather for holidays, where children take their first steps, and where we build a lifetime of memories. It is the address that anchors us, the place we return to when the world feels uncertain. In the years since, I have seen that truth play out again and again. When people gain a home, or when they must leave one, what they are really talking about is security, belonging, and the people they love under one roof.

"Home is not a place of residence, but where the heart finds its people. In every neighborhood I serve, I see that quiet strength: neighbors who watch out for one another, and families who build their lives on belonging."

- Tina Hambleton

A HOPEFUL CLOSE

We are twenty-five years on from that September morning. And still, we endure. Communities rebuild. Neighbors return. Life moves forward, not because we forget, but because we choose to remember and to hope. That is the quiet resilience that defines this country and this community. In Riverside and across the Inland Empire, I see it every day in the families I serve: people navigating difficult transitions, finding new homes, and building new beginnings.

Home is where that resilience lives. It is the place we return to, the community that holds us, and the belonging that carries us forward. As we remember, let us carry that spirit into our own neighborhoods. Let us be kind to one another, look out for our neighbors, and hold our families a little closer. And if there is ever anything I can do to help you find your place in this community, I would be honored to walk beside you.

Experience matters. Who you hire matters.
